Swiss Finance Council
Founded in 2013, the represents the interests of internationally active Swiss financial institutions vis-脿-vis the EU institutions in Brussels and monitors regulatory developments in the financial sector in the EU.
AMAS has been a member of the Swiss Finance Council since 2023 and is in regular contact with it on current issues. In order to keep our members promptly informed about current developments in EU regulatory projects, we share the weekly SFC News on our website and look forward to questions and suggestions on the topics discussed, which we are then happy to take up in our working groups and with the SFC.
Focus: The Savings and Investments Union
The Savings and Investments Union (SIU), inheritor of both the Capital Markets Union (CMU) and Banking Union (BU), is a package of reforms which will be proposed by the European Commission from 2025 to 2026 designed to enhance the efficiency of the EU鈥檚 financial system.
The SIU鈥檚 upcoming changes are critical to monitor for AMAS members. The streamlining of supervision, reduction of regulatory duplications, and harmonisation initiatives could significantly impact operational processes, compliance requirements, and competitive positioning in the EU.
- Its primary goal is to channel savings into productive investments across the bloc by addressing inefficiencies in financial intermediation, streamline financial regulation and supervision, mitigate fragmentation, and encourage a more integrated capital market.
- By targeting regulatory fragmentation and reducing compliance burdens, the Commission seeks to simplify cross-border financial activities and boost the competitiveness of EU financial institutions on a global scale.
- The planned measures range from enhanced retail investment strategies and harmonised supervisory practices to the review of key regulations governing pensions, securitisation, and asset management.
AMAS and the SFC are committed not only to inform members on these developments, but work within the EU鈥檚 regulatory ecosystem to ensure the voice of Swiss asset managers is heard during all stages of the regulatory process.
